Freshmen can take our flexible Exploratory Curriculum, giving you up to 36 credit hours to survey various subjects as you decide between pursuing a health sciences degree, a natural sciences major or another option that captures your imagination. Keep in mind that those hours ALSO include any hours you’ve earned through AP, IB, AICE, dual enrollment, etc.

Whether you’re craving a career in the fast-growing health care field or long to cultivate your curiosities in other areas, the exploratory curriculum in health and natural sciences at USF is a perfect place to find your path.

What will your USF Exploratory Pathway be like?

The heart of the Exploratory Curriculum Pathway is a personalized student success course called U-Decide. This first-year course helps you explore different majors and careers.

Through engaging coursework, hands-on experiences, and guidance from experienced faculty, you’ll move toward deciding on a health sciences major, a natural sciences major or something else. You’ll also connect with other students who share your interest in health or natural science.

These experiences help you develop critical thinking, problem-solving and communication skills to help you make a confident decision about your future.

Discover Where You Belong

“The Exploratory Curriculum made it easier for me to get help with counselors to decide exactly which major was best for me … Without it, I would have been forced to choose a major even though I was not 100% sure about it.”

—Elena Brazee, Environmental Biology
